adiaphora
November 30, 1999.

A Greek word meaning "indifferent." In Stoic philosophy, adiaphora were just that, things that were not meaningful in terms of moral law.

For Christian churches, adiaphora, or "things indifferent," are things that might be important, but are not vital to Christian unity. Usually, these are aspects of religious practice that are not specifically dealt with in Scripture—music during church services, for example.
