Hot off the presses is a Public Religion Research Institute poll, which finds that a plurality* of Americans (49%) think that religiously affiliated colleges and hospitals should have to provide co-pay-free contraception coverage to their employees, while 46% say they should not have to.
Note: a majority of Catholics also believe these institutions should have to provide this coverage (52%). But among Catholic voters, only 45% support it, while 52% oppose the coverage.
The poll didn’t ask whether voters would choose not to vote for President Obama’s reelection over his administration’s imposition of the rule.
Here’s some not-at-all-surprising news from the poll:
Nearly 6-in-10 (58%) Millennials say that religiously affiliated colleges and hospitals should have to provide health care plans that include contraception coverage, compared to only one-third (33%) of seniors.
and
Women are also significantly more likely than men to say that religiously affiliated colleges and hospitals should provide this coverage (54% to 43% respectively).
