Shruti Devgan is a doctoral candidate in sociology at Rutgers University. Her research focuses on the Sikh diaspora, cultural trauma and internet-mediated commemoration. She is concentrating on the Indian subcontinent's partition of 1947 and the anti-Sikh violence of 1984 for her doctoral dissertation. She has won awards from UC Berkeley and the South Asian Studies Program at Rutgers for papers on Sikh religious symbols and commemoration.
