Andrew L. Seidel

Andrew L. Seidel is an attorney and author. He is the Director of Strategic Response at the Freedom From Religion Foundation. His first book The Founding Myth: Why Christian Nationalism Is Un-American hit shelves in May and was burned by a Tennessee preacher. Renowned constitutional scholar Erwin Chemerinsky described it as "a beautifully written book" that "explodes a frequently expressed myth: that the United States was created as a Christian nation." Senators Can and Must Ask About Nominees’ Religious Beliefs

By Andrew L. Seidel

Questioning federal nominees on religion has been decried as a violation of the Constitution’s ban on religious tests. But not only does it do nothing of the kind, there’s good reason to think Article VI actually requires these questions.
