Dan Savage, sex columnist, equality activist, and creator of the “It Gets Better Project,” was recently challenged to a debate by the National Organization for Marriage’s Brian Brown after a highly publicized event at which Savage told students at a high school assembly that they could ignore some of the “bullshit” in the Bible. Savage later apologized for snarky comments he directed toward some students who walked out.
Brown publicly pledged to debate Savage, declaring “I’m here, you name the time and the place and let’s see what a big man you are in a debate with someone who can talk back.” Savage announced on his podcast today that rather than invite Brown into some “Coliseum” setting, he is inviting Brown and his wife to join Savage and his husband for dinner in their home.
As reported by David Badash at the New Civil Rights Movement:
“So, what I’d like to do is invite you to dinner. Bring the wife. My husband will be there. I will hire a video crew and we will video sort of an after-dinner debate.” “You have to acknowledge my humanity by accepting my hospitality, and I have to acknowledge your by extending my hospitality to you.”
Dan also has invited New York Times’ Mark Oppenheimer to ensure it’s “fair.”
